Jessica Tolbert, Guarini '25
Hometown: Chattanooga, Tenn.
Degree: PhD in Chemistry
Tolbert attended Claflin University, the first HBCU in South Carolina, where she received her BS in biochemistry. Continuing her campus involvement from Claflin, Tolbert became involved with various organizations around Dartmouth including mentoring students from other universities in the Dartmouth ASURE program. She co-founded and led the Chemistry Council at Dartmouth aimed at building community within the department. She was also a PhD Innovation Fellow and completed an internship with Mission BioCapital, a biotech venture capital firm in Cambridge, Mass. There she was able to meet founders and participate in building the next generation of biotech startups. Most importantly, her time at Dartmouth was spent meeting and building relationships with people across the campus.
Favorite place around campus: Anonymous Hall Front Lawn
"Whenever the sun was out, I made it a point to head there. Of course, the prime location meant that I had built-in breaks to see folks I knew from around campus. What better way to enjoy Hanover than completing work, connecting with others, and soaking up our beautiful surroundings."
